Relax at the Rock Harbor Lodge

The Rock Harbor Lodge offers excellent accommodations on the island. Located on picturesque Rock Harbor, the lodge includes both lodging (American Plan) and light housekeeping units. Other facilites connected with the lodge include a dining room and snack bar, gift shop, and marina. Services include boat, motor and canoe rentals, guided fishing expeditions, and sight-seeing tours on the tour boat M/V Sandy.

Lodge and housekeeping rooms

The four lodges located along Rock Harbor include 60 American Plan rooms. Each room has a private shower/bath combination. Picture windows provide colorful vistas of the Rock Harbor and nearby islands.

Housekeeping Cottages

Twenty housekeeping rooms are located convenient to the main lodge. Each room is furnished with an electric stove, refrigerator, dishware, and utensils. There is also a private bath/shower and dressing room. The studio-type living area has one double bed (which also serves as a couch in the daytime) and two bunk beds. Linens and blankets are supplied. There is no daily maid service.

Dining and Snack Bar

The delicious food served in the dining room will add to your enjoyment. American Plan guests are served breakfast, lunch, and dinner in the dining room, which is also open to everyone on the island. The snack bar is also available for light sandwiches, refreshments, etc. No liquor is served on Isle Royale (BYOB if you wish it in your room) but beer and wine are available in the dining room with meals only.

From our point of view, we have always found the lodge personnel wonderully easy to do business with; they are extremely friendly and accommodating. In short, there is a certain almost inexplicable charm about the lodge, a charm that attracts people back year after year. Backpackers too can enjoy the lodge facilities: snack bar, dining, showers, gifts, rentals, and the general store. In fact, we like to call it the "backpacker's delight," an extra day at the conclusion of their hike to become re-acquainted with civilization, for there's nothing like a broiled lake trout dinner, a steaming hot shower, and a warm bed after several days in the wilderness. Highly recommended by the Kilpela family.
